Cedar City

01.30.2011

After the debauchery of Las Vegas I was headed a few hours drive north east to Cedar City. Training with Aspen didn't start until 7th of Feb so the plan was to spend a few days camping near Cedar City to get use to the aches and pains of life outdoors.

So Cedar City....there is nothing interesting here. Go looking for a camp ground but quickly find out that Highway 14 is iced over and I almost crap my pants spinning out on an shadowed curve. I still need to find a place to camp and eventually come across some seasonal roads that lead to spots near the river.

The night was spent in the back of the truck. I pullout the new sleeping bag and new ground pad for a warm nights sleep, pull the big KBar knife off my belt, and it slips out of the unsnapped sheath and it falls point down on the air pad. There goes the cushion and the insulation. Most of the night is spent shivering and hating life. Sometimes I could fall asleep for twenty minutes only to awaken to make slow contractions to warm muscles. At day break I'm happy that the night is over and I search for the nalgene that was next to my head....it's frozen solid.

I spend another night here and then trade my ego in for a hotel room. It's warm and I enjoy a pleasant relaxing meal. I make contact with Duckie, the only person to write back from a half dozen request but she is unable to host because she lives with her parents and is a school or work most days. But we agree to get together to see some petroglphys and have dinner with some of her friends the next day.

The petroglyphs end up being unimpressive and a waste of time. However it does provide the opportunity for a quick photo shoot and the exploration of an abandoned farm.

Later that evening we had dinner with her Saudi friend that owned many shoes and then a diminutive girl crawled under the bathroom sink.
